I am a create a scheme that best fits your talent. If we have only one good MLB, this kid Jones, then running a 5-1 featuring his sideline to sideline talent makes sense. If we add Wags then we probably run more 2 ILB sets. .
the gap-and-a-half scheme with the 5-1. That gives the Rams more flexibility with 5 DBs...
Now, if you are going to bring in one declining player and switch you defense because of him...that does not seem like smart football.
If that player is a great player and you have other great players to play a new scheme, then fine . . . but Wags in not that anymore.
I don't hate the guy, he's still good, an upgrade to Reeder, but Reeder is gone . .. really, the question is if Wagner is an upgrade
to Jones.... and with jones ascending and Wagener declining --- who is really better for this scheme and this team?
Sure, it is possible Wagner gets recharged and is back to his old self...it's possible...but it's also something that might not happen
We've kicked the tires on the guy let's see,,,, but I doubt Rams change from the gap and a half 5-1 to accommodate him--seems
unlikely.
I guess Rams could go to a one-gap system and play 2 ILBers ... but why? McVay seems to love the 5-1, have Raheem coach it
rather than Raheem coach defenses he was familiar with.
