He's one of the top 10 LTs in the league this year. What would Boom be? We don't know. Youth is not always a fair exchange for ability. As Albany laid out - we could pay him next year, and spread the cap hit out. If we keep Boom too (as Albany showed how) then he's ready to step in in 2023.
I know time always wins, but in the age of Tom Brady, you can see some outliers who use their talent, smarts, rigorous physical prep, and knowledge of the game to hold off the hands of the clock. Why not Whit?
Whit has already exceeded his expected time as a starter, much less a quality LOT.
But the Rams are fortunate to have an apparent starter caliber LOT already sitting there. A smart, healthy, proven on the field LOT that already knows the other players and the playbook. Boom could be our future LOT for the next 10 years. It’s a heart wrenching but no brainer decision both at the same time.
