He's improved and seems to be a great depth piece, but Whit is a hall of famer and still performing at a high level. Why would you kick him to the curb? Maybe they should work Boom as a guard more - Edwards has been up and down and maybe he's hit his ceiling.
Still think we should pay Boom to keep him, but since he's a backup without a ton of tape, I don't imagine he'll be a super high priced, in demand free agent.
The Iowa rookie looked good at LT in pre-seaon too. So they seem to have good depth at one of the most important positions in football - heard many analysts say - the 3 most important positions are LT, Edge Rusher and QB.
Lot’s to unpack here, promo.
But first let me say that I LOVE Big Whit as a player, teammate, and human being. A HR signing by Snead/McVay if there ever was one.
But Father Time is undefeated, you know?
Yeah, Whit is a future HOF’er but that was because of ‘then’ and this is now. IOW, we should be comparing the current Whit and the current Boom in terms of Ram value over the next 10 years. If we do then this is a no brainer decision.
Moving Boom to OG doesn’t seem like an option, either. It’s been tried and failed. Some players are virtually interchangeable and others just aren’t. Boom demonstrated no future as an NFL OG.
As to keeping both? I don’t think it’s possible given our cap situation, lack of premium draft picks, and the many other UFA’s that Rams want and probably need to extend.
The cap forces tough choices every single year. I’m afraid Whit is gonna be among the casualties this year.
