On the one hand Whit is loved and revered by players, coaches, and fans alike and his play has not fallen off by much as most of us suspected that it would. He’s a physical freak, IOW.
But Boom has been waiting in the wings for 4 years now and Rams are gonna have to extend him or lose him to FA. Boom potentially has a 10 more year window with the Rams while Whit has an unknown but definitely very limited window.
Then there’s the Whit salary cap implications. I think Rams were planning on using that $13M for other FA needs. I think they NEED that money for FA’s at other positions.
What to do? Rams will either decide to lose the young Boom or the 40 year old Whit. Goodness.
Myself, I’d very reluctantly let Big Whit go as yet another in a long list of cap casualties. It would be painful but at the same time in the team’s best interests.
