The issue (for me) is that of course if we all stayed far away from other people... if we all worked from home... if we didn't go the movies, or Church, or a concert, or to school classrooms... of course the spread would be less.
But what's magic about 6' distance? It's been known since the beginning that the virus is far smaller than the weave of any cloth mask we'll wear, so even masks only help a bit.... perhaps.... and what a bit is has never been quantified.
I'm saying that I do think the #1 help is vaccinations. Yet, they must remain voluntary because we have the right to choose what goes into our bodies. But... just like for the seasonal Flu.... it doesn't end the risk for everyone. Any nation can only stand so much economic pain; having our traditional systems completely interrupted; having us be socially isolated in order to lower risk to some undefined level. How much is OK? How much is too much? It's all according to some bureaucrat or politician's subjective decision.
But's what's worse is the constantly evolving info we get, and for the promises made, that when it's wrong, why should we trust any of it? I certainly don't. Rather, my risk scenario is: I got vaccinated. From here on, no mask, no social distancing for me. Unless of course I'm in a situation where I have utterly no choice because perhaps there is a service I can't do without and they require masks and social distancing (like needing to fly somewhere and the airline requires it).
But you know.... you have the right to make your own choices.
