His handling of Goff, IMO, is a separate issue from whether he thought Goff could get the Rams back to another SB.
Agreed on this.
As you said above, if you don't think your QB is going to improve anymore, it's not impatience to move on.
And no one said it was impatience
to move on.
I don't know why this kind of discussion is sometimes hard to follow. It's simple really.
You will see very little in the way of criticism of the trade itself (though there is a bit, which is fine, conversations like this should include and encourage a wide array of views).
What's happening here, in contrast, is a discussion of the coaching issues involving McV and JG--which insiders themselves criticize in the article. I actually take it that those guys are former Rams coaches the writer talked to (Olson? LaFleur? Taylor? Kromer? ... there's a long list of them and a smart reporter would know to contact them about this.)
Anyway. No one says you can't move on from a player and the kind of disconnect these 2 had pretty much dictated moving on.
But then the separate issue of how things were handled during the season and also leading up to the announcements of the qb spot? (All before the trade.) That was not handled well. le. I take that McVay admitted as much and I think has learned from it. I don't buy the idea that Goff just fell apart so he was justified. First, even if that's how it happened (which I doubt very much), there is never any justification for behaving like that as a coach, especially a qb coach who is also the head coach (so answers to no one). But as I said I doubt it happened that way. Goff had his own issues but the way McV handled things contributed to the problem--if you mess with a young qb's confidence what do you expect would happen?
Now...there are some who don't like people saying that but, we didn't join a conformity tea party, we're in discussion for the sake of discussion. Good discussion welcomes disparate views.
You probably agree with all that.
