The 70's Rams were great but they lacked that star QB. Perfect historical example of why McVay made a move. All of us can argue whether the Rams handled it well, but the bottom line was that McVay thought Goff wasn't going to bring to the table what was needed to get his team to the Super Bowl.
I wish the 70's Rams could have done the same.
Enh. He was impatient with a 5th year qb. Shrug.
The 70s Rams would have been great if they had even the 5th year Goff.
5th year Stafford was not that much better (he had just as many bad games as 5th year Goff) and that's in spite of Stafford's excellent physical gifts.
There are coaches who won it all with lesser qbs than Stafford. So--why is this a story that gives credit to McVay in that way?
IMO a lot of people hyperbolize Goff's 2020 issues. It doesn't make for very accurate history.
Meanwhile I like having the savvy, been there seen it all guy in Stafford. He may be the best Rams qb in the entire time I followed them back to the 70s. 2nd only to Warner and
maybe not 2nd to him at all.
