It takes a combination of things to make a good team and have good results.
There are those QBs that can elevate an O. Then again, I'm not sure a great QB can elevate a crummy O.
When Brady went to the Bucs, the ONLY thing they were missing was a really good QB. They had everything else.
Some say that Rogers is what makes the Packers go. True to a degree. He's had good players surround him, and had some good O coaches. D's have been anywhere from OK to very good for him. So as with any situation in the NFL, one man doesn't determine the team's outcome over a course of 16 games.
I guess what I'm saying is that in nearly every case you MUST have very good players in several spots to win a championship. The most critical spot is at QB, but you must have really good players elsewhere, too.
I know some think it spin, but Demoff said that the reason they went after Stafford is to go from A to A+ at QB. I'd say he was being gracious and generous; it's more like going from B to A. That is, it's not that the Rams had a poor QB. But they had an opportunity to get one with more experience and a better skill set. Archie Manning said that Stafford had the best arm among all the great players ever to train at his famous QB camp.
And yes, clearly, McVay had a growing dislike of Goff. Probably some was personality conflict. He also felt that the one position holding his O back from being a championship caliber was at QB. I know many here don't believe he was right or fair. So be it. But it is what he thought and local media have said so as well.
Is it impatience that he moved on from Goff? My response would be: is it impatience to make a change at the position you believe will make the biggest difference in making your team better? Or is it a demand for excellence where mediocrity is not tolerated? I don't call that impatience. I call that being ruthlessly determined to win ala Belicheck, and if one determines certain players are not going to take you to the promised land, you make the change.... right now.... if you feel that you can upgrade that position. Forget the hurt feelings of the player who got demoted, cut, or traded. That's for fans to get excited over.... not for HCs.
