I don't buy this particular spin.
He did pretty well with a mostly inherited team. And given what he inherited, he had a golden opportunity to do well.
He ought to do well 5 years later when normal attrition changes the team. I haven't looked at numbers but it's common sense that teams change a lot in 5 years.
Beyond normal attrition, Gurley fell prey to an arthritic knee, and in 2020 the disconnect between Goff and McVay was too big to heal (is my take).
In terms of the future, Snead/McVay seem to be drafting well and Stafford adds a talented veteran qb, someone McVay can learn from as much as vice versa.
