ok thanks for feedback. I don't believe I said first rd talent must be taken in the 1st rd. yeah, rapp (probably 2nd rd talent imho) might be good, and kupp is great but also really 1/2nd rd talent). I just don't think you should look at it as you do...we don't need 1st rd picks because we will uncover gems with first rd talent in mid rounds. You need both, to find gems and to take the obvious 1st rd talent with first rd picks. You need both.
"So if the Rams with their 60% hit rate in the mid rounds are finding just as many difference makers as other teams are finding in the first round, then lacking 1sts doesn't hurt them much and they have a competitive advantage."
don't think I agree with this. all teams find gems late. Pitt drafted juju (end of 2nd) around same place we took kupp. they BOTH fell that year.
Here is what you said:

We don't have first round talent when you don't have first rd picks.
I took that to mean that it's your position that 1st round talent has to come or nearly must always come from the first round.
But I definitely never said we don't need first round talent. In fact, on the contrary I specifically said that "No one is arguing that it doesn't hurt to lack 1st rounders..." My point has simply been that this "they're doomed" stance b/c they lack two 1st picks is very short sighted and overlooks the fact that they've had phenomenal success in the mid rounds.
And again...on the 'all teams find gems late' perspective, maybe that's true... but not all teams are finding the same amount of late gems. The Rams have been top tier in that category. Anyone who doesn't factor that fact in is just doing bad analysis IMO.
There were a lot of gold miners in the gold rush, many of them found gold. Isn't the most pertinent question relating to their success not whether they found gold but, HOW MUCH gold did they find? Trying to equate all of them on the basis that "they all found gold" is just shoddy analysis and seems rather silly doesn't it?
