But if I were to engage, let's assume it's true that only two QBs can do well with injury depleted OLs. Assume that's admitted. The fact that Goff is horrible under pressure, even apart from injury depleted OLs, and thus needs a top 5 OL to keep him clean is still true.

I don't agree that he needs a "top 5 OL." I think that's hyperbole. But NOBODY needs a subpar and/or injury broken one.

Last year's OL was exposed and showing weaknesses with the right side--everyone from Saffold over to Hav. Yet on the road in New Orleans he came through with clutch play.

That's my measure of Goff.

Like his drive against Seattle which would have won the game if Zuerlein had hit the FG.

And btw anyone saying only Brady and Wilson are good under pressure are just wrong. And it's the wrong issue. The real issue, since it directly connects to the reality they have right now, is how qbs play behind compromised and exposed OLs. By which I mean game after game in a given season--subpar or broken OLs.

The situation now is not normal or average, let alone ideal. Yet person after person acts as if a broken OL makes no difference. I mean...of course it does. We know football well enough to know THAT much.

.

Here's why it's not hyperbole. In 2017, Goff did very well with numbers as a top 8-12 QB and he had a top 5 OL.

In 2018 he started off doing really well when his OL was functioning as a top 5 unit. Then, as you state, the OL began to be exposed. And Goff's performance plummeted with it. PFF is just one voice that provides a metric but it captures what I'm saying and what we all saw.

In the first 8 weeks of 2018, PFF's OL Blocking Efficiency metric shows LA rated #5. Goff performed admirably at that time looking like a top 10 QB.
In the last 9 weeks of the season, the Rams were rated at #13 in the same metric. Goff's performance plummeted and he looked like a bottom tier QB.

In 2019...we all know what happened here, no need to go over this.

In summary, it's only when he had a top 5 OL that he put up numbers as a top 10 QB. My conclusion is he needs a top 5 OL.

I strongly disagree that assessing Goff under pressure is the wrong issue. You are not the arbiter on what the "real" issue is. I believe you are sorely mistaken by narrowly focusing on the issue that "connects to the reality they have right now." Coming into 2019, we already knew that the Rams needed to address the things that had gone wrong in 2018 including the subpar OL performance in the latter part of the year. Why have a narrow minded focus on what's wrong right now when we still need to fix what went wrong last year?

IOW, the issue goes beyond just this year's current injury affected reality. If you don't see that, we'll just have to disagree.
