Lack of adjustments by McVay; bad offensive line personnel moves/injuries, ergo, bad offensive line; and Goff is not playing well.
I thought Goff was going to progress even more this year, and the game would start to slow down for him. The FO and coach didn't put him in a great position to take that next step.
Goff sucks under pressure. That's common knowledge by now. Now, I haven't seen a whole lot being done to give him a clean pocket and help a banged up o-line.
I'm not absolving Goff. He looks lost and nervous when pressure is in his face. He has the ability to move well in the pocket. I've seen him do some Brady-type shuffling in the pocket to buy time, but it seems like he doesn't know where to go with the ball much of the time when faced with secondary blitzes. Or he misses throws.
The good news is he can improve in that department. However, the Rams need to help him by adjusting their scheme and giving him more to work with. The weapons are fine, but no QB not named Russell Wilson plays well with guys all over him all the time.
I don't understand how McVay the wunderkind hasn't figured out a solution to those six-man fronts. That formation pretty much neuters this offense.
But all hope is not lost. Most of the issues on offense are fixable. The other problem, though, is the Rams have so much cap wrapped up in some expensive, albeit, great players, with little draft stock.
The defense has improved, sans that awful Ravens game. They need some re-tooling at d-line and linebacker, but they aren't far off from being really, really good.
This team isn't that bad.
By the way, I love how the expectations of this team are so high now that a 6-5 team with a shot at the wildcard, slim as it may be, has fans so riled up.
So much better than 6 or 7 years ago!
