Anybody ready to jettison Rogers from the HOF because of a less than stellar year here and there?
Does Rogers have to re-prove himself each season to satisfy fans' insecurities?
Why can Rogers falter for 3 1/2 quarters (as we at times see happen with Wilson) only to go into overdrive in the last minutes of the 4th quarter to either pull out a win or make the game dramatically close, and we applaud them. But when Goff does the same, then he is branded as inconsistent, must have a problem, and many of us go into perpetual hand wringing mode.
Lest you think I'm comparing Goff to Rogers I'm not; only the circumstances.
Goff has already proved himself to be an expert passer of the ball who can make any throw with velocity and accuracy.
He is not throwing against air. He is throwing against D's that have specifically game planned against his set of weaknesses and strengths as well as with McVay's tendencies and system. Lately he's been throwing will guys wrapped around his ankles and in his face a lot. The Rams are, in general, everybody's target because they are the reigning NFC champs so the Rams get a strong and emotional game from all of their opponents.
Goff, admittedly, has had some rough outings. And yet, like a true champion, manages to find a way to win.
Unless he's been the ultimate faker the past 2 years, he'll get in a groove any time now, but like all other QBs he needs his surrounding cast to do their jobs too. Gurley needs to pull up his big boy pants and make bigger holes where there are only little ones. The Oline needs to get in sync and get a little more nasty. McVay needs to recognize that the other team's D seems to know what he's going to do before he does it. It doesn't hurt if his Receivers catch the ball instead of dropping nicely thrown passes at critical moments.
So there's a lot going on here. But it seems to my eyes that Goff is still Goff and he's not happy with his performances, either, regardless of the other circumstances. That along with his talent will lead to that breakthrough game and then all will be happy in Ramland. At least for awhile.
