A very noticeable change after the bye last year
At Detroit last year, I thought he looked distracted or sick.
And I figured it was one game.
Then Chicago - well, a great defense and a bad day.
After that, never back to a full game of wonder like Minn or KC.
He really gutted it out in New Orleans.
But the great throws all game long have just not been there.
I even speculated that maybe he was dealing with some undisclosed physical issue that we would learn about after the season, but there's been nothing.
Inconsistency. I rewatched the Cleveland game last night and he actually made some fast, sizzling throws. Very quick, decisive, and dead on. Some really great throws in that game.
But there were clunkers as well.
I think it's much more the outside forces than anything within....
Couple things happened in the Detroit game....they, not the Bears(who seem to get all the credit for the 6-1) with a new scheme to stop the running game.
That coupled with the fact that Gurley seemed to get hurt in that game and just tried to power through it since Malcom was already lost for the year by then.
The defenses got tougher and the line also started to tire.
He looked really good in the Niner game and Cardinals game to end the year, but those get easily overlooked because of the records, but we just can't pick and chose the games we want to point out how bad he looked and forget the ones he played great in....like the Saints game.
The good news in all of this is that the defense has finally started to show up and carry some of the weight, we are 7-1 in our last 8 games since the Eagles game. That's a sign of a damn good football team when your offense isn't even clicking yet and we still just keep finding ways to win.
I honestly think McVay is inches away from cracking the code on this 6-1 cover 4 defense and the o-line is getting closer to gelling.
The Goff that we saw light up teams like the Chiefs and Vikings is still there, we just got to get that team around him in those games back. We are close!!!
