A very noticeable change after the bye last year
At Detroit last year, I thought he looked distracted or sick.
And I figured it was one game.
Then Chicago - well, a great defense and a bad day.
After that, never back to a full game of wonder like Minn or KC.
He really gutted it out in New Orleans.
But the great throws all game long have just not been there.
I even speculated that maybe he was dealing with some undisclosed physical issue that we would learn about after the season, but there's been nothing.
Inconsistency. I rewatched the Cleveland game last night and he actually made some fast, sizzling throws. Very quick, decisive, and dead on. Some really great throws in that game.
But there were clunkers as well.
I think his confidence took some hits. First in the Det/Chi games.
Then from the superbowl.
In 2019 IMO he still has lingering confidence issues though that's more up and down now.
He needs to have a confidence inspiring game against what is well-known in advance to be a tough opponent.
This is not a one-note explanation. Plenty of other things have gone on and are going on. But to me it's also a crucial factor.
It's all there for him to improve and re-assert himself and string together top games. But, confidence is a tricky thing.
