No. Have to disagree but it's with a nuance. There was nothing "forced" about it, he bought in. Does a collaborative GM type have to work with the offensive coaches he has, and meet their vision? Yes. And just as now, it's not JUST the head coach. It;s at least the OL coach too. As a group those coaches seemed to prefer high-end physical attributes over refined skills. That's what Quick, Austin, and Robinson had in common. It was almost the opposite on defense, where they found good players who had less than ideal measurables (Donald, for example, and even Joyner, who was a top nickel safety...the position he is going to play again with the Raiders).

But again, or again again, they did draft Gurley, Goff, and Hav, all good picks and when it comes to finding a franchise qb, that counts for a lot.

Interestingly Goff both does and does not belong on the same continuum with Quick and Robinson, where you have high-end physical talent but undeveloped playing skills. Goff is not a high-end physical presence--his best attributes are much more subtle than that. He has some freaky arm talent, and his mentality and ability to learn are top notch. Yet like the Rams big draft swings and misses on offene, he was undeveloped---especially compared to qbs who came from pro systems (Wentz. Wilson). So in some ways they stuck with the pattern with Goff, in some ways they valued his best less than immediately visible traits.
