And because so often getting true consensus is extremely difficult and sometimes impossible, there is contingency for that. The goal can be consensus with the fallback being decision by Snead.
And consensus can also mean some people saying they "can go along with that choice" vs. everyone nodding that it's their top choice. Very often consensus means that.
We don't even know that Snead has the power of final say. We know Fisher did. Right now, truth is, we don;t know who does. But even if Snead did, if his job (as he sees it) is to find players who are "fits," then he is going to listen to experienced guys like Wade and Kromer. He is certainly not going to overrule them, right? And then when it comes to skill players, McVay. Plus there was a policy previously that for all we know is still in force. From 2012-2016, the procedure was, if there was conflicting views of a player, they would just drop that player. This too is "human nature" as long as we are going to base analysis on vague abstractions: if you force a choice on others, they can tend to be less cooperative on other decisions. Either way, it is impossible to look at guys like Henderson and not think McVay, or Rapp and not think Wade, or Noteboom and not think Kromer.
I really don;t know what this debate is about or why it exists, to be honest. For example, there's this thing about consensus is not really achievable, as if "consensus" means 100% accord. Consensus means sometimes, you shrug and move on. Experienced workers who are invested in the process know how to do that. So I dont know where this "you're saying consensus means 100% accord" strawman comes from, And which scout or linebacker coach is going to tell Kromer, no your guy Noteboom is unacceptable to me? Sneads job in this is (among other things) to bring a bunch of paint color swatches to experienced coaches, who then say, well I like E345 ("autumn amber" ).
To me this kind of speculating by us isn;t very clear in its purpose. It's interesting, but since it's mostly speculation, it doesn't have the feel of real analysis.
Either way we know dead certain that Snead is not a "UberMan" type GM who makes personnel decisions unilaterally. I mean, we know that's the case.
