not because we got there but because we lost

43 calls Cooks a HR... was he? Did he look like a HR in the SB

Anyhow there is a part of me that thinks that they got there a bit early... and that the SB on many levels was too big for them. The head coach, and QB especially

Its not an overwhelming feeling but its a feeling

Since the whole issue is a judgment call, I see and respect both sides. Personally I lean towards saying it's all worth it and even if they got to the SB early, they'll be better for the experience.

But if you see it differently, fair enough. But for you in particular, I'm perplexed with you feeling like a SB appearance is not worth it. Help me understand.

Right after the SB loss, you talked about how it's rare to even make it to the SB and there is no guarantee we'll ever be back. In light of that view, isn't ANY shot at winning better than nothing? Even if they just got lucky... If we really feel it's that rare, it seems to me that whatever you can do to get there automatically makes it worth it.

I don't think that was addressed to me? But let me sneak in a couple of thotz here.

Taken in itself, as a policy, I personally don't like trading high picks for short rookie contracts. But I don't know how big a complaint that is. To me it;'s just part of the conversation to mention it.

Some are fine with it, and like that it contributed to a superbowl run.

Even just in terms of that, this is where we get into paradoxes and problems, though. People say, you never can count on going to a superbowl--you don't know. But it is equally true, then, that no one knows if they could have done it without Peters and Fowler (and with different players though we can't say who they might have been). Both are hypotheticals, really. Saying we couldn;t do it without them has the same hypothetical status as saying we don't know if that's really true. Etc. etc.

So it gets down to what you would prefer. If given the (completely hypothetical) choice, I would prefer the idea that they keep the pick and draft someone like Donte Jackson.

But change the topic to something where we agree and you'll find that the "trading picks for short rookie contracts" issue is far from dominating the whole picture for me. It's just one more slice in the pie chart of things to discuss about about the team. This is not like arguing about whether they should keep the head coach or find a quarterback. It's just an issue. One topic.
