Bottom line for me is that you cant just count draft picks to determine winners and losers. You need to account for their performance on the field and the intangibles they brought to the team.
And that's what we precisely can't know in discussing hypotheticals. And I mean can't know either way. Was trading for Peters really better than drafting Donte Jackson would have been? There is no actual way to answer that. It's just as hypothetical to say they couldn't do it without Peters as it is to say maybe they could have done it with D.Jackson. Either way it;s guess.
So it just gets down to a philosophical discussion about which policy we each think is better. Philosophically, I am not as sold on the trading high picks for short rookie contracts approach as others are.
