"They would have gotten there sooner or later anyway. "
First, it certainly isn't given that they would ever get to the Super Bowl.
Second, whatever year they were 'supposed' to make it: having played in this one will provide invaluable experience for their 'real' appearance.
Well none of that persuades me that their trade picks for short rookie contracts approach is worth it.
Teams have won superbowls without prior invaluable experience in superbowls. There's loads of teams that just got there for the first time and won, no experience required. And some like the old Vikes and the less old Bills lost 8 total, including 3 each after losing their first ones, without prior experience doing them any good at all.
I do believe they will have a team that will get to a superbowl sooner or later. I assume that most if not all of us believe that. I don't think anyone believes the fate of the McVay Rams is to lose one superbowl and never go back.
Again, none of that persuades me that what looks like a flawed personnel strategy was worth it. I would still rather have the players (NOW, not in future comp picks) for those traded picks.
It's one of them there "preference" things. I prefer one strategy over the other.
