AD agents may be have an agenda to set a record by a 25% -30% above the previous highest contract.
.
I will tell you this. There is no one you can name who came up for a big "cash in, prime years" second contract who has had to settle for a 10% increase over THREE YEARS from the previous market high.
2nd contract amounts go up annually and so far none have grown at a rate of 3.3% a year...it's more like 12% a year.
The year of a contract counts which is why Wilson got 22 M and Cousins got 28 M. That's just simply the fact that Wilson signed in 2015 and Cousins in 2018.
So if you go back to the last "top player in the league" contract, Von Miller at 19 M in 2016, offering Donald 21 M means only a 3.3 % a year increase when everyone else at every other position gets the normal 12% a year increase.
And btw 25 M, which he is reportedly asking for and won't get, actually falls short of a 12% a year increase since 2016...that number would be more like 26.5 M. He's going to probably end up with 23-24 M, which is short of 26.5 M....and that means he's already conceding a lot.
If we know all that then Donald knows all that so him standing fast for what he's worth is just the obvious and natural thing to do.
