If he is prepared to sit out his contract there is no way on earth he can ever make that money back.
This is about perceived 'respect' and his ego's desire for said respect.
AD wants a contract so huge that it will be another 2 or 3 years before he gets passed.
At which pointiof he is still playing at this level, he'll want a new contract.
I don't give a rats behind what anybody says this is quite clearly about ego.
Having said that, I seriously, seriously want to sign the guy. He is a once in a generation type of player.
I don't know UK. I don't see a contract that is so huge it takes a few years to pass it. Mack's could pass it immediately, depending on who signs first.
Plus I don't see anything in what he's asking as being "so huge." I've done the math on 2nd contracts and what AD is asking for is well within the norms of annual percentage increases for all 2nd contracts across the board.
What the Rams are offering however is way
short of that.
Classifying him as a top defender, the last contract like that was Von Miller for 19 M in 2016.
An offer of 21 M represents a 3.3% annual increase, and no position has had 2nd contract increases that are THAT low.
He is asking for 25 M, which is a 10% annual increase over 19 M in 2016, and that's well within league norms, in fact it's a little on the low side.
Looked at IN CONTEXT what he's asking for is just not that big a thing.
So I dont see a big ego asking for a huge thing. I see proud player refusing to be sold short.
