....but to not take this too far with you, if he wants to take the average from $19mm for the highest average annual salary for a defender (Von Miller/DEN) up to $25mm (that is a 32% increase if that is a yearly average), the Rams will not do that, nor will any team IMO....I am personally getting sick of Donald and his agent...
Just my opinion...
Nope. Years count. And all teams do what I am saying at all positions every year.
Compare any avg. 2nd contract signing at any position for 2017 and then the avg. 2nd contract signings for the same position in 2018. There is always an increase and it is always more than what the Rams are doing with a 21 M offer.
How about receiver. In 2017 Devontae Adams signed for 14.5 M. In 2018 second contracts averaged 16 M. That's an increase of 10.3%. We know receivers 2nd contracts won't go down in 2019. If they increase at the same rate they ought to average around 17.5 M.
If the Rams math they're using for Donald looking at from 19 M in 2016 to 21 M in 2018 were to be applied to Cooks, Cooks would not have gotten 16 M. He would have gotten 15 M.
But...like the average for his position group for his year, he got 16 M.
Asking for 25 M in relation to a 2016 contract is just normal annual growth. And even then he will probably get more like 23-24 M which is short of normal annual percentage increases.
