"But the 3-4 is better. You’re normally bringing four pass rushers. In a 4-3, that means all the linemen. In a 3-4, that’s three linemen plus a linebacker, but you don’t know which linebacker is coming. That causes some confusion and gives the defensive backs a better chance. " [

And then there's this (in reference to the Broncos' defense under Phillips): "... ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold, who charts every defensive play, will tell you that Phillips used four pass-rushers the vast majority of the time, continually varying which linebacker he used to get to the quarterback." From your post: "... you should not put one of your best players on a assignment that does not maximize their skillset frequently." Maximizing Quinn's skill set meant using him as the rush linebacker on virtually every play that he was in the game. That does not fit Wade's preference, which is to vary which LB is rushing. Hence, not a scheme fit. And ultimately traded away.
His forte has always been setting the edge and rushing the passer.
He would drop in hook zones but he was not a coverage LB and did fine in Phillips defense.
Ware and Miller were the leading sack tandem in the league under Wade.
You can't do that going backwards.
Quinn can do that IF healthy which is why he came on the later the season.
If there was a weakness in his play was his ability to stay discipline and set an edge.
Other than that he can do what Ware did.
We'll agree to disagree, because nobody hear unless you're evaluating his physical skills can determine what he can or can't do scheme wise after one season.
Ware was not dropping into coverage.
Quinn had the skill set to do what Ware was doing.
It's contradictory to both say "Wade uses players according to their strength" AND "Wade had a particular approach he always stuck to (ie.always rush 1 LB alternating which)."
Quinn improved at the end, probably because he got healthier and acclimated to the system.
Having said that, still, a lot of this is speculation (on everyone's part) because no one knows or can ever know how good a fit Quinn was in the Phillips 3/4 because you can't determine that after one season.
In terms of my own view. if they find a way to make up for the kind of production Quinn looked like he was capable of, then the trade will add up for me, but if not, then I will wonder about it.
