ok, seems you just want to argue. Even if he was finally healthy and that caused his play to improve, so be it. I am not sure even that level of play is worth $12 mill per year. Also, players do not become healthier as they get older. I personally do not feel it is worth the risk of paying him $25 mill over the next two years. Thankfully, the Dolphins do, and I wish him and them well.
Miami certainly thinks so. And other teams were interested too. Those teams know how to calculate the cap too, just like us.
12 M a year is not even top/elite DE/3-4 OLB money btw.
But if he could play a whole season like he did the last few games then sure absolutely he's worth that much. In the last 5 games (he did not play against SF) he had 5 sacks and was, for those games, among those at the top of the league in runs stops and pressures. If he played like that across an entire season that's 16 sacks. And 12 M for 16 sacks from a savvy veteran player is completely reasonable.
Anyway all I am doing is debating the idea that he played average over the last couple of years. From the looks of things, he was not right physically for most of that, and when he finally was, his production increased.
Let's see what they do to replace him.
