If it was simply a benefit playing next to Donald then he would not have played as poorly the previous 11-12 games of the season and would have been able to physically participate in practices during training camp.
The more likely explanation for the difference between his below average games and his final games, where he played well, is that he was finally better physically and was more like his old self.
