In the NFL, you can tell what positions execs see as the most valuable by looking at which positions carry the highest salaries. As one would expect, QB and pass rushers are the highest paid positions followed by DT's, WR's, CB's, and LT's in that order.
I maintain that that salary info suggests that CB's have a higher positional value than LT's.
FWIW, when you talk about the dangers of an OL implosion, you're talking about pure need.
Thats interesting. I would have thought LT would be second only to QBs.
Well, all i can say is I will be worried if Snead doesnt pick an LT in the first round.

What corners are paid v. LTs is misleading. The avg. on CBs is driven up by 5 players who get more than 13 M. After that there are 8 in the 10-13 M range. With LTs, there are 13 in the 10-13 M range. So the difference in avg. annual amount per contract is represented by 5 CBs...one of whom (Tru) has a high number because he was tagged
The idea I think is that an elite CB trumps everything else because of what having one does to benefit a defense. But the key is, he's elite.
There just aren't that many elite CBs.
But an offense needs at least a solid LOT.
So the difference is, you don't have an offense unless you have an at least solid LOT.
But the rare elite CB can make a defense special.
