Yes, Mannion is automatically the #3. That's pretty apparent. And I agree with the 2nd statement. In fact we said nearly the same thing. He wants to get more out of Goff because he is a developing high pick, and at the same time CK is probably going to start and/or be the #2. So yes.
I don't know why Sean is automatically #3. Sean has out played Jared in camp and on the field. Right now if the season started and Case was injured, I think Sean is the better player to run the offense than Jared.
I would like to see Sean given a chance to beat out Case. During that Cowgirls game, I saw a QB who attacked the players he went up against.
It's a decision that Fisher is forced to make by a process of elimination, 73.
Here are the realities that Fisher must face...
Only 2 preseason games remain.
Keenum clearly gives the best chance to win on opening day. Therefore, Keenum must receive sufficient snaps to get his timing down perfectly with the other starters. Emphasis starters.
Goff is clearly the future. The cost of the trade up proves that that is the longer term S&F mindset. Goff's play on the field simply reinforces that opinion. Therefore, Goff also needs game snaps to hasten the day that he is given the reins. The more with the ones, the better.
Mannion made his case vs the Cowboys, already. He's miles ahead of last year and probably miles ahead of most fans expectations, for that matter. Including yours and mine. But he's odd man out due to the fortunate circumstances we've seen from Keenum and Goff.
I really like Mannion's chances of being Goff's backup next year. In '17 preseason I predict that Mannion will get lots of preseason snaps. But just not so much in the short remaining preseason this year.
That's my take, anyway.
