I have nothing against Mannion. It's just that nobody displaces the future #2 (CK) and the future #1 (high draft pick high talent Goff) to "see what they have" in their #3.
...
From all we saw in the Dallas game and during camp Mannion has looked superb. Probably even the best QB among the three.
Who is to say that the so called Nr. 3 is not the true Nr. 1 on the field ?
And before anyone says the coaching staff and Fisher say so: I do not have the sligthest confidence in this HC and coaching staff when it comes to the QB position.
I too would like to see what Mannion could do with the Nr. 1's in a live game.
Go Rams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, yeah he looked good. No question. It was admittedly against 3s but still...good is good.
Last year when folks were all down on Mannion, I was posting camp report after camp report saying how well he was doing. I defended him, given the little we saw in preseason last year.
But there's a plan and you don't interrupt it because fans like a guy.

CK is the experienced veteran and will be starting until Goff is ready.
Goff is the high-talent #1 pick and he has to get up to speed.
Mannion is the good problem to have #3 guy. You don't interrupt everything to "see what you have" when it turns out you have a good looking #3 guy. What you do is stick to the plan and count your blessings.

Coaches don't go out there "to see what they have." That's a fan thing. Coaches already know all about Mannion. They see him in practice, they see him in the film of practice, they see him in meetings. They know.
Coaches are trying to win now and the plan is start the vet (who also looks good) and prep the rookie (who has the talent as advertized.)
If things work out well maybe Mannion is the #2 next year.
If that means he waited 3 years to get preseason game reps with the ones, well, Warner waited 5 years to start. Bulger, 3 years. Green, 4 years (not counting his time in the CFL).
AND who knows, maybe that's all wrong and they start Mannion with the ones. Shrug. But, the way I see it, practice time is limited by the CBA and they don't have enough reps to go around, so they need to make the plan work. CK is the veteran #2, Goff is the guy they traded up to the 1st pick for.
Just count it as a good problem to have. Are the Rams 3 deep at qb? Maybe. Well. If so, yay.
