The Rams oline is now one of the better ones in the league. And, it needs to be left alone to continue to develop.
It is manned by a UDFA 3rd year LOT
A rookie LG.
A journeyman C who has plenty of years left to play good ball.
An incredibly good, young pick up via a most favorable trade at RG who has turned into a top 5 OG.
A really steady, dependable RT who is the leader of that unit.
They've stayed healthy enough to get in sync, and they each are good enough that the sum of the parts is turning out to be better than any particular individual.
Olines depend on being in sync. You don't need All-Stars at every position to have a playoff or even Superbowl level Oline. But the Rams have 1 OG that ought to be All-Pro, and the other who will be perhaps as early as next season.
Certainly there are better players in the league at all but probably 2 of our Oline positions. But is it worth spending any significant draft capital or salary cap money to obtain 1 or more? Unless they regress, I think not. The only real possibility to me is at LOT because of its importance at getting the best you can, and only if a guy is available in the draft that the Rams think is the next Big Whit. I sure don't want to see them spend a lot of money to acquire one via FA.
Jackson I believe will be a RFA after this season. Surely the Rams will offer something like a 2nd round tender. As for Dotson....what's not to like? Big, young, nasty, skilled and he seems (at least outwardly) to be a good teammate and fits well with the unit. These guys don't grow on trees. The Rams need to swallow hard and spend the money to keep him, unless they think he's a mirage or is getting more credit than he deserves.
