Look at what he market is bearing for talented guy who are a headache. Peters for a 4th rounder and he cost under $2 Mil. He is an all pro OBJ is a great talent but has been a problem for the Giants and wants $16 Mil. Somehow I think that 2 first rounders is over paying. If you look at the Rams transactions they don't over pay. I know that Goff trade seemed like a lot but really thaby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Reynolds and Thomas are who you would naturally think of when looking at this battle but I think Cooper will want in on the action. Yes he is normally a slot guy but he has learned all the WR positions and is more proven than either Reynolds or Thomas. The other thing that will impact this battle is whether or not Everett or Hemmingway can emerge so that McVay decides to run more 2 TE sets.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Great points and I can't say I disagree with any of them. I think the conventional wisdom on the height of the QB will come into play and if it does the smart money is on the kid from USC. Cleveland may fall in love with Allen's arm and he has had a great off season. Sadly I think that Mayfield will be the 4th QB off the board due to his size and the stability of his personality.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Player development which seemed to be better under McVay is still kind of a question mark. Goff and Gurley the 2 most important guys really improved as did Hav and Brown. Of the rookies Johnson and Kupp really did well which is a decent haul considering where we picked. I guess Higbee also improved but he still has a long way to go. On Defense the biggest jump was probably Joyneby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Rock Ram I agree with all of your points. I just feel good that the conversation has changed so much in 1 year. Last year we had hope because McVay sounded so good and was so positive. But really we had little else. Goff was on the trash heap and considered a draft bust Gurley looked like a one year wonder and then an unfocused guy who couldn't find a hole for anything The offensiby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
5 Million seems like a fair deal for both sides. If we cut Austin our dead money would have been $5 Mil. New contract lets us keep him and if he works our he can earn a little extra. If we end up cutting him it cost the same as if we cut him earlier. At least this way McVay can see if he can figure out how to use Austins skills with a full training camp and mini camp schedule. QuoteRamgator For quite some time, the Skins were constantly loading up on HUGE names. While the Skins were never horrible, they were not exactly ruling the NFL. Skins got a bunch of guys at the tail end of their careers. Suh is right in his prime Peters should still be rising. Talib is nearing the end of his prime years but still in his prime. Skins were and old team and the Rams aby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
We didn't just add talent we added elite talent. We now have 3 super elite players on defense (Donald, Suh & Peters) and bunch of elite players including Barron, Joyner, Talib, Brockers and probably Johnson. That is 8 players that are at an elite or super elite level on one defense. We will probably add a young stud pass rushing LB or at least a play making LB on the draft as need andby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thanks for posting that link that was great. You get pumped up just watching it.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
First Round is a pass rushing LB 3rd Round they could go for BPA at LB, OL, WR 4th rounders OL, LB 6 rounders BPA with focus on special teamsby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Snead is looking for a good deal. 2 first rounders is way to much especially considering the cost to sign OBJ. Looks like Giants don't really want to trade him unless they are overwhelmed. Looks like this deal is dead.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Wow I am impressed too. Rams acquired all this talent and did it within the the cap and have not long term cap implications. Best defensive line and defensive backfield in football hands down. Offense looses Watkins but Goff should improve a lot with an additional year of experience and a second year under McVay. Hats off to Les Snead who took a lot of heat because of Fisher. The gby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Suh is kind of a dream. Add him with Donald and Brockers and that is an all time great line. Defensive backfield is superior as good as it gets. With or without Suh LB is the number one need. Initial impression of the high end of the draft is that you can get either a good run plugger for the line or a Linebacker. For that matter you can get a really good defensive back there too.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Nice write 43 and I see things much like you. I love what they did too. Sullivan gets resigned I think Watkins maybe but looking bad after Evans contract market may be to high. They end up seeing what we have in Reynolds, Cooper and Thomas. One will emerge I think they like our young LB but will add someone with experience via trade or FA Draft will focus on best available in theby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Pick 1 is probably going defense or trade down and then defense.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
7% sounds about right. Late in the draft it is a crap shoot. There are probably 100 or so similarly talented people that will be UFA of which we may sign 5 or 6 if we are lucky. So between late round picks and UFA we may have between 8 to 12 shots at players that have a skill set that gives them a realistic chance of making the roster. If we got 1 starter out of that group it would be a homeby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Nice Post 43. Apparently the posters on the other teams are more impressed than on this board. Les Snead is rocking it but they must have a ton of faith that McVay and Phillips can manage these guys to their maximum potential.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Hats off to Les Snead. He made out biggest off season need a strength position and probably the best in the NFL before the middle of March. And it did with without giving up a lot of resources. The costs of our secondary will be in the middle of the pack and probably the lower half and all we did is give up a few mid round draft picks. Love how we got here from many different perspectives.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Les Snead is hitting the sales racks right now. There is not way that Peters and Talib are available for mid round picks unless they are on sale. The Rams are looking at the risk of bring these guys in and they are counting on their coaching staff to be able to manage them effectively. It these guys buy in and fit in we got a great secondary for a couple of mid round picks and 12 mil in cap coby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Shields if healthy is going to play a lot. NRC will only be back if the price is right. We are no longer in need with Troy Hill the 6th DB and a bunch of young guys filling the last few slots.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think it will be next man up. Thomas and Reynolds will fight it out. Add in some low level FA, late draft picks and someone will emerge to replace Sammy. Perhaps they split Hemmingway out wide. I think Sammy will be gone. He wants to check the market and somebody will give him a big deal to be the man.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
A few weeks ago I said I was having trouble getting into the draft because I there seemed to be so many moving parts. Well I can say I never dreamed we woudl make the moves we have made and it is fun as a fan and quite impressive. The Quinn trade I did not expect I thought we would cut him but getting a mid round pick for him is a nice bonus. My thoughts at the time were that LB was a moreby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
The Peters deal I think is good but I sure would like to know what we gave up. Love the cap flexibility we now have. TruJo seems like a goner now for sure probably Barwin too. Austin will be cut even if it only saves up $3Mil this year. Critical FA Joyner, Watkins are still up in the air. Love to have both back. Even if we resign Joyner we are still a CB short unless you count Hill plusby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Loved the way you filled the holes. Not sure on the Higbee comments but if you can get Graham for $7 mil I am all for it.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Interesting ranking system that seems comprehensive. Notice that overall Rams rank 1st by a wide margin.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Great coaching does go a long way toward winning. Look at the 3 QB in the playoffs that were terrible under Jeff Fisher. Look at the Rams offense versus the Jeff Fisher offense. Coaching really matters a lot. Another example is NE where Belichek continues to excel year after year. It sure has helped that he had Brady all those years. He got fired before he got the NE job. Great coachinby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I am okay with Mannion as the backup. There is usually a vet hanging around that can be signed in an emergency. Someone like Tony Romo or this year it was Jake Cutler. Mannion playing with the first team offense would be okay once he settled in. Do not see paying big $$ for a backup. Would like to see drafting a developmental type guy like the kid from Louisville Lamar Jackson. I thby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
43 you nailed it. While his XO knowledge is off the charts it is his leadership, communications and organizational skills that make his so unbelievable. He is also very humble and always looking to learn and improve. He has so many qualities that are off the charts that you just won't find anywhere else. He will get so much better as he gains the only thing he is missing which is exby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Snead goes out of his way to get the best players to fit what the coach wants. McVay is very articulate in the qualities that he desires in players which really helps Snead. McVay gets Bum involved in articulating what they need on defense. Snead will team with McVay and there will be consensus on needs and key players that they really like. I think we have the best of both worlds.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
The fact the Goff, Keenum and Foles are all in the playoffs and Keenum and Foles are in the championship round really points to the importance of coaching and a good offensive scheme. This year under McVay it really drove home how important great coaching is to the success of the team. Fisher did okay in managing defense, special teams and acquiring talent with Les Snead.
