Good post.
Lot to agree with you , some things I disagree.
Let me start with the latter.
Should McVay and AD call it a career after 2022 and you do not keep Stafford and trade Ramsey it will not be a soft reset. That will be a total rebuilt then.
TE and WR do not need to be adressed other than resigning OBJ. At some point you have to trust the Hopkins, Blantons and Atwells et al. Both units look to me as set for 2022. I would totally ignore them in free agency and draft. Same for the S position.
CB and edge rushers are a huge need in this pass happy league. Both positions are premium and the Rams have to be active there and put the money available.
Same for the o-line. We absolutely need a LOT to protect Stafford and our interior line could use some more beef.
ILB : Would resign Howard. He has played very well until the SB where he sat on the bench. Maybe injury related. Dont know. But in the other playoff games he was a huge factor. If a cheap veteran looking for a ring popos up get him.
RB is set too with Akers, Hendo , Funk and the other two guys you mentioned.
I would like to see a hard nosed FB who can lead block and get some of the tough short yardages. My impression was the Rams really are not that good when it comes to getting that elusive last yard or two.
So to sum it up: Put the money at edge rushing, cb and o-line. Everywhere else we are pretty much set up .
Go Rams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it would probably be a total rebuild. I guess it would depend on the new HC (like an in house guy) if Snead stayed, and there are plenty of good pieces though.
TE and WR. I could see McVay going after Engram in FA. Thats the kid he wanted in his first draft when they took Everett. Otherwise, I'd maybe look at a TE in day 3. Nothing to lose. But to bank on Blanton and his 1 good game and Hopkins and his one good game to back up Higbee is kinda scary. Now TEs usually get into it on year 3, so maybe Hopkins does make the jump. So I think we disagree some here, but if they stand pat, I'm fine with that.
WR is set I think regardless of OBJ. Its Trees, Kupp, Jefferson, Skow, Harris and Atwell. Thats good, and I do think OBJ is back for the 2nd half of the season. So again, I think we agree.
CB I agree. If not in FA, I think is priority 1 or 2 in the draft, but in reality, how much help can you expect from a 3rd or 4th round CB? I prefer a ring chasing vet on a short, cheap deal. Now, if Williams comes back, it does slide down my list some. Not much.
Edge is tricky to me. IF, and its still a big if, Von comes back, Its hard to allocate any more cash to the position outside of Miller and Floyd. I love garretts upside, Hollins is still there, Lewis (can he give them anything? Who knows) If Miller is gone, Maybe go back to Fowler in FA? The FAs are either meh, or gonna be well compensated. Does a 3rd round edge help? Maybe, if the right one is there.
ILB. Chris Board from the Ravens would be a sneaky good get and probably cheap. I have my eye on a few guys in the draft as well. I just am not convinced they see either FA Howard or Reeder as solutions next to Jones. So yeah, I think we disagree here. I do think the center of the defense was the by far the weakest part of the D. The ILB and S group. It got better with Scott and Weddle and Jones at the end.
RB is probably set with Akers, Hendo, Funk and X. Jones. I still want a true thumper in there, and you do mention a FB, but as you recall I banged the drum all last year for a FB. The kid form Mich., well he is still out there and the Rams have zero interest. But if a kid like Haskins from Mich or Robinson from ALa slide a bit, man would they look good in horns. Both are hammers. I seriously doubt either gets to the Rams though.
I agree with CB, OL. I'd switch edge to ILB or S.
Either way, good stuff Dodger. Hope all is well.
