What roster?
Clearly a dominant D line and an all-world corner in Ramsey.
ILBs were mediocre at best. Jones is talented, but unproven. Reeder is very limited and Howard is good in coverage, but otherwise limited.
The corners outside of Ramsey? Williams rarely played up to his 2020 standard. Long is average at best. Deayon is mediocre. Rochell is a question mark.
Safeties. Rapp can't cover. Scott had a great postseason, but is still unproven. Fuller was missed, but tell me what stands out about his play? Burgess is so bad Weddle had to be coaxed out of his recliner to bail them out.
The defensive line clearly made up for talent deficiencies on the back end.
About the D roster. One can look at that glass as half full or half empty, frankly.

Gaines was there from the jump but was getting few snaps until the SJD injury. An evaluation problem?
Snead bailed out Morris big time with the Miller trade. What DC WOULDN’T look better after that move?
Granted, Jones needed seasoning, but did he need THAT much? Especially given how well he hit the ground running?
I still have questions as to why both DW and Burgess ‘regressed’. Only thing that makes much sense is that the schemes and/or coaching changed and not in their favor.
I find it telling that Morris kept the rising star Scott largely on the bench while stubbornly starting the flawed Rapp. Another talent eval shortcoming?
Call me old fashioned but I still have reservations about the usage of Ramsey in that ‘star’ role, over usage might be more accurate.
But my biggest problem with the early season Morris D was his stubborn (there’s that word again) insistence on that ‘bend, don’t break concede the first down’ semi prevent passive scheme. It was crap, tbh. And he kept at it regardless of results. I became so tired of those 9 minute drives, too. The man seemed incapable of adjusting, not a good quality in a DC.
The good news is that FINALLY Morris either learned how to better use his personnel and better gameplan against specific opponents OR McVay had finally had enough and had a little ‘come to Jesus’ meeting with his buddy Morris.
Bottom line is that the playoff D was night and day better than Morris’ D through November.
