With Talib, Peters, Watkins, Matthews, Fowler, etc.- what they gave to acquire them, their performance as Rams and then what they received when they left are all fine in my opinion. With Cooks the total value is TBD because the 23rd pick they gave New England for him equates to two years of Cooks plus 4 years of Jefferson (drafted with the 57th pick they received when they traded Cooks to HOU). So we have to see how Jefferson develops.
As you point out (and I said the same separately above), the egregious errors are extending Gurley and then Goff both a year sooner than was ever needed. Their view/value of both would have been quite different 12 months later.
I don't see it quite the same. IMO there are some in there who were not worth it. Eg. instead of losing the 1st rounder for Cooks and then having a dead money hit on the 2020 cap, they could have drafted any number of people who would make a difference now.
They essentially didn't pay anything for Talib, Matthews, and Fowler. That makes sense. (IE. the highest pick there is a 3rd rounder.)
Goff btw would have gotten more if they waited a year. A smart team would know you don't blame 2019 on the qb, that was the OL. Wait a year and he is just getting 2020 2nd contract money for qbs which is obviously more than 2019 2nd contract money.
