I bet the Rams FO and coaching staff have factored in the OL issues of 2019 and still concluded that Goff wasn't what they wanted.
That;s not what I mean. I am talking about how WE (all us fans) talk about 2019.
One thing that always gives me pause is this--that this coach and front office account for everything and so it must be the player.
We don;t know enough to make that assumption.
Have you ever seen a single Rams head coach who was without problems or blindspots? Robinson? Vermeil? Martz?
I never assume it must and only can be the player.
It could be the player. It could be a coaching blindspot (eg. is it possible McVay does not have the kind of balanced patience to make the most out of players he does have as opposed to alienating them?).
It could be both.I never simply accept the argument, it has to be the player, coach is a genius.
As good as he was, for example, Martz routinely handled players wrong. It wasn't just Warner.
Most defenses of this trade say well coach knows what he wants. That's not my issue because I don't have a problem with the trade.
My problems are usually with analysis. One regular analysis I have a problem with is "coach just must be right." Naw in my experience no coach is right THAT high a percentage of the time. There is always a human problem somewhere, or 2 or 3.
