I agree that McVay didn't handle this situation well. In hindsight, it could be his youth or not knowing how to play the political game better but we could tell from his body language that he was done with Goff. That's not the best way to create or maintain leverage.
That said, the debate over whether McVay felt Goff was the issue holding back the team can be over now.
And.
It's interesting that no one consider this.
One of the reasons that Goff struggled could be precisely because his coach caved in to his worst impulses that way and so was unconstructive in how he handled the qb.
A good coach finds a way to avoid that.
Not cause it.
Instead a lot of people automatically take it as well if he was done then he had to be right. As opposed to, he was one big cause of the problem, which he could not fix because he's blind to being that way.
...
....
This will not be long to evaluate.
We will see a number of changes made to try and prove the right move was made but we further mortgaged our future and McVay and Snead will both have to answer for it in the future.
While I will hope they can fix this to me it is SB appearance or bust. Playoffs and division titles would be nice but we have done that. Stafford either overcomes McVays misques and makes him look smart again or the bandaid is ripped out and the media and fans will throw salt in the wound for sure. I am betting that Detroit fans feel like their GM is a genius and that Rams played themselves.
I also feel like this is no longer about who the better QB is but about Rams the organization's over inflated since of confidence in it's HC and litterally buying into the hype and buzz generated due to their early success. Well there is a price to pay.
