I agree that McVay didn't handle this situation well. In hindsight, it could be his youth or not knowing how to play the political game better but we could tell from his body language that he was done with Goff. That's not the best way to create or maintain leverage.
That said, the debate over whether McVay felt Goff was the issue holding back the team can be over now.
And.
It's interesting that no one consider this.
One of the reasons that Goff struggled could be precisely because his coach caved in to his worst impulses that way and so was unconstructive in how he handled the qb.
A good coach finds a way to avoid that.
Not cause it.
Instead a lot of people automatically take it as well if he was done then he had to be right. As opposed to, he was one big cause of the problem, which he could not fix because he's blind to being that way.
