To me, it's clear by what we've seen and read that McVay and Snead did not handle this thing great. At the same time however, they didn't feel Goff was their answer at QB. I think both of these things are true. We may never know the gritty details but McVay and Snead felt strongly enough, right or wrong, about Goff not being what they felt they need, that they essentially paid the Lions to take him.
Red bit. I completely agree.
Blue bit. Completely different topic which had nothing to do with anything I was saying. Notice that not once do I say it was wrong to make the trade. I personally think people are too hard on Goff and that he can rebound from an inconsistent 2020, but I get the trade--coach wants his qb. That's fine, no problem. Stafford's an interesting choice too. But the blue bit is completely unrelated to the red bit. They can decide all those things and make the choices they made--and still handle it well. I like it when Rams management and coaches show class, and I dislike it when they don't. I have long felt that way--in 2000 for example I was already pointing out what a problem Zygmunt was. I don't think these guys are as remotely bad as Zygmunt but they did not handle the Goff controversy like seasoned balanced professionals. I thought they were jerks about it.
