SunTzu and Max, you both seem in lock step about this and while I REALLY want you to be right, I'm going to offer what I both fear and believe will happen.

Let's consider the overall approach by Snead in his tenure. Name one single DB he didn't consider replaceable when he hit the top of his market value (with the exception of Ramsey). When you run the list that includes Janoris, Tru, McLeod, Alexander, E.J., Joyner, McDonald, Peters, Talib, and NRC, it indicates that when a numbers crunch of the cap necessitates a tough loss, the DB room is the first target. The drafting of two safeties is also a strong indication that the loss of JJIII last year was the beginning of a plan going forward. Sprinkle in the Rams most recent hits on UDFA DB's and I'm sad to say, Johnson's a goner. Again, I don't like it but I'm reading tea leaves here.

I follow your logic here, but I think Johnson is playing at a level above any of those guys at this point and is a team leader to boot. I hope they can find a way to keep him.

I don't think his point about them drafting two safeties can be overstated. The Rams have been very methodical with their plan which includes filling needs one year in advance.

With the exception of Whit, I don't recall that they've ever resigned the vet when they had already drafted their replacement. And with Whit the plan was likely to continue with him as long as he could play, they just need a contingency plan given his age.

I can't see it. The Rams have too many good safeties.
