Rules governing both holdouts and teams cutting players are provided for in the CBA. IOW, both are contractually sanctioned by the league as methods that the parties have at their disposal to further their respective business interests.
If you get mad at one, you should get mad at the other. If one is unethical, so is the other since both involve "not honoring" the contract.
