All QBs have bad games, even bad stretches.
I am real big on the "young qbs have bad games" thing, in fact I posted something about Brady in his 3rd year having 5 subpar games.
But this was different.
What we saw was a combination of things that brought the qb down. Mostly, the protection collapsed.
Now the qb did go down and no one is saying otherwise, so I am not sure where this thing I am sensing comes from, where sometimes some folks act like saying the protection collapsing exonerates Goff or something. Naw that's not it.
We know the protection collapsed both by watching, and by the numbers, and by the coaches's reactions (Kromer talked about fixing the OL and getting back to basics).
But as a rule with a young qb if the protection collapses, unless he's a rare one like Wilson, it takes him down too. And that means he gets rattled and starts pressing (that's how Farr talked about it). Which ALSO means that he will be in "bad reaction to pressure problems" mode even on plays where there is no pressure. On those plays he has lost confidence in his OL.
So it's not pressure per se, it's how he responds to it.
Now as it happens, ARZ is 4th in the league in sack percentage, so that was actually a fairly decent test.
