Just from what I remember... I can’t watch it again
Goff was awful ... he was stunningly inaccurate and lost his composure “rattled”. Even when the offensive line solidified and gave him time
He was a complete mess... and it was stunning to watch. He was being asked to do something that most QBs have to do from time to time... “go the distance” and without the PA and without the window dressing he was a mess
This is the hard truth
On Monday morning when I came to the board there were several threads critical of Reynolds ... I laughed hysterically. Goff missed him time after time, just horrible.... gave him no chance
The last throw you mentioned to Reynolds - Reynold ran to the endzone turned around and stopped waiting for a jump ball with single coverage from Goff.... but Goff threw a pass as if he was expecting Reynolds to run under it. Very disappointing and an example of a QB who completely lost his composure.
Goff has completely melted down two weeks in row, and there are other issues like the oline, a tired team, Gurley....but damn we need a QB that can overcome that and gives us a chance when we absolutely need a play at the end in a close game. We aren’t talking blowouts here... we are talking about needing to make a key throw to change the complexion of the game
Goff gave them no chance at the end... that was so disappointing
I'm reading about this on 4 boards. Here the majority seems to put the game on Goff. Another one gangs up on the one or 2 posters who do that (the ganging up aside, they do make arguments). One is less favorable to the "in the end it's on Goff" view but is a little more diplomatic, and one is more split between those who put it on Goff and those who say it was several things.
Me? The game I saw I expected them to win when they were getting the ball back at 3:03 to go. Before the Natson fumble. That's in spite of everything that happened before.
At that point, the previous Rams score was this series.
4 6:18 1 10 RAM 16 Jared Goff pass complete short left to Robert Woods for 7 yards (tackle by Malcolm Jenkins)
4 6:03 2 3 RAM 23 Jared Goff pass complete short right to Gerald Everett for 20 yards (tackle by Cre'von LeBlanc)
4 5:40 1 10 RAM 43 Jared Goff pass incomplete short middle intended for Todd Gurley
4 5:36 2 10 RAM 43 Jared Goff pass complete short left to Josh Reynolds for 10 yards (tackle by Rasul Douglas)
4 5:09 1 10 PHI 47 Jared Goff pass complete short middle to Todd Gurley for 5 yards (tackle by Nigel Bradham)
4 4:46 2 5 PHI 42 Jared Goff pass complete short left to Robert Woods for 8 yards (tackle by Rasul Douglas and Malcolm Jenkins)
4 4:27 1 10 PHI 34 Jared Goff pass incomplete short right intended for Josh Reynolds 3
4 4:22 2 10 PHI 34 Jared Goff pass incomplete short left intended for Gerald Everett 30
4 4:19 3 10 PHI 34 Jared Goff pass complete deep middle to Josh Reynolds for 33 yards (tackle by Rasul Douglas)
4 4:13 1 1 PHI 1 Jared Goff pass incomplete short right intended for Todd Gurley
4 4:10 2 1 PHI 1 Todd Gurley middle for 1 yard, touchdown
On that series he is 6 of 10 for 83 yards. Yeah there were the misses but they don't score unless he hits the 33 yarder to Reynolds.
On the other hand when they got the ball back with just a minute left, I didn't expect a win there. Either way they even had a chance because he was 5 of 6 on that series.
How many qbs have you seen line up at the 18 with 4 seconds left and win it? Heck, Wilson has one of the 2-3 highest comeback win percentages among active players, and in their last game against the Rams, he had 39 seconds from the Rams 35 and couldn't do it--he couldn't even get 1 completion at that point and turned it over on downs.
My point? Goff had a rough day--I think qbs that have been rattled by subpar protection WILL have rough days (and you will be hard pressed to name many qbs who have come through against THAT MUCH pressure). But in the end, meaning literally in the end--the final minutes--the Rams were in the game solely because of him and he was nowhere near as bad in the end as some are making out (and yeah I saw and groaned at the misses too).
That's just not a couple of series that have me doubting the qb. Like I said when they were getting the ball back at 3:03 I was expecting a win, even given everything that had gone on before.
Not bad for a third year guy.
And for the record no one on the planet earth is arguing that Goff does not share in the blame or that he wasn't a factor. I will say this though. I do expect JG to rebound, he has before. Meaning, this season. But--meaning this season---I don't know if I expect the OL to play again like it was at the start of the season, though maybe they can get it back together, or for the run game to dominate like it did before, though that too is just more up in the air...maybe it could happen.
