Holding out should not be used for this. It's not like the Rams are pissing on him. They have made a generous offer and have been very respectful. So with that in mind why is he trying to reinvent 3 wheels at the same time? Get in there, help out your team and live up to your contract.

He is under contract. They did not renegotiate a new contract. He can't opt out. Im sure the two sides negotiated. Nothing happened. Same story.
I'm sure the Rams would have loved to rip up his contract last year and sign him long term. I'm sure they would have loved to pay him Fletcher Cox money plus a couple million. It's so painfully obvious that he wanted and wants to wait until 2019 or at least be paid now like it is. Why hold out? Take the 21 million or get to work and play the real negotiation game when his contract is up.
I don't care if he holds out or not. It has been a part of Rams negotiations since Jack Youngblood and Dennis Harrah did it in 1980.
The Rams wisely let it be known that they do not hold the hold out against him and that's the right way to do this.
Trying to offer Donald something as low as Fletcher Cox money would be laughed out of the negotiating room. Cox is not in AD's class (no interior DL is) and that's not a slam at Cox. 21 M is too low given the parameters involved and Cox is just barely over 17 M .
Rams would love to do all sorts of things if your pre-set narrative is always going to be that the issue is the player. I could reverse that whole thing and it would be just as true the other way around---Donald negotiated in good faith but the Rams were stuck trying to offer Fletcher Cox money to someone who is categorized as the best defender in the league. See, spinning narratives that just reveal the side we take is easy. And in situations like this it is always reversible.

I said Cox money plus 2 million. That would have been in 2017. Cox signed in 2016.
I'm almost always pro player. In fact I have said that I'm especially in favor of Rams players since the Rams up and made the players move. They made their players families relocate and forced a tax hike. With that said, Donald's requests have rubbed me raw.
Donald is reinventing too many wheels.
