Yeah and some teams don't draft well and some teams draft better than others.
There is no such thing as "the 23rd pick." Different teams rank players differently, and so you put different teams there at 23, and the pick would be different.
Acting otherwise IMO is to pretend there is uniform ranking from team to team so that they end up with the same player no matter what.
There is no such thing as Pick 23,
in this sense---you can't pretend that there were never other options or that different teams would NOT have done it differently.
I assume whoever the Rams would have picked at 23 in the 2018 draft would have been a good player.
Same if they picked 23rd in other years since they have become good at drafting.
IMO it's a false metric to look just at 23 over the years and act like that says something. Therefore it's a false defense of the Cooks trade.
I defend the Cooks trade and at the same time I don't pretend like they would not have gotten a good player with that pick if they hadn't traded.
