20 million per year for a tackle is so risky to me. I get that he's on track to be perhaps the greatest defensive tackle ever, but the way qb's are getting paid, having 50 million per year tied up into just Donald and Goff is a cap killer.
I kinda agree. Plus, I have a feeling the Rams offered him a HUGE contract and he is insisting on more money and an out clause> I have no proof of that as it is just a gut feeling. I would be ok with keeping him for the next 3 years (via tag) or even trading him for a few picks after next year. As I said in another thread, how many DT's actually were the reason a team got to the SB? JJ Watt was considered the BEST (Signed a huge deal) and the Texans got to 0 SB's. Suh was considered the BEST for a few years (signed a huge deal) and got the Lions and Dolphins to 0 SB's. Yes AD is a great player but at a position that is't a "must have" for a SB ticket. JMO.
There will be those who "have the feeling" the Rams offered him a lot and got turned down.
There will be those who "have the feeling" the Rams lowballed him.
But here's me. You know who the last elite level DT in the league was? Cause they are rare and very few and far between. And no Suh was not that level. It was Warren Sapp. And yes he went to a superbowl, because he was on a good team with everything it needed---including him.
The teams you named---Houston, Miami--don't have the qbs they need. There's nothing mutually exclusive though about having a good qb and an elite DT. In fact I personally think the Rams have both.
Here are some more elite DTs from history. Lilly, Olson, Greene, White, Paige, and Culp, to name a few. All but one were on superbowl teams btw.

Not sure if any of the guys you listed were THE reason the teams won the SB. Even so, that is a list of 5 out of 52 SB's. That is a small percentage zn and I believe is proof that you don't HAVE to have a superstar DT to get to or win a SB. Also, I still think AD might be asking for a bit too much. (Unfortunately we might never know what the Rams are offering and what he is asking for. We can only speculate) Here is the total list of SB's. How many teams had a superstar DT that was THE reason they got there or won? Also, in 27 of those SB's the winning team scored more than 30 points and quite a few others were in the upper 20's. Again, showing that a DT really doesn't change the game like a QB, WR, RB or "complete team D" would. A single DT does not guarantee anything.

#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
