He didn't understand offense.
Well you're not responding to my main point.
The Rams had a series of decisive injuries on the OL and then had to go with inexperienced starters.
They also had a starting caliber qb only 1 and 1/2 seasons.
That means from 2012-15 they have both a relatively healthy, veteran OL AND a starting caliber qb in 15 of 64 games.
Now if you can give me examples of coaches who according to you DID understand offense and also won under those conditions, I will say you have a point.
If you can't name examples it's because (as we would logically expect) nobody does well under those conditions. It just plain stands to reason that the 2012-15 Rams would have done better if they didn't have to deal with that stuff. I don't know HOW MUCH better, but they would have done better. You still might not have liked it, but it would have been better...I mean that's just basic everyday football understanding. We KNOW that kind of thing has an effect.
So to me unless you're factoring in those conditions, you don't have a full enough analysis. You're leaving out one the single most significant things. It's like trying to explain the disaster at Pearl Harbor without mentioning the Japanese attack.
But on the other hand, my bet is that if the Rams this year lost Whitworth, Saffold, Sullivan, and Goff and Mannion, and were starting an injury replacement OL along with a #2 caliber qb, we would all be pointing out that we couldn't expect McVay to do as well under those conditions.
Again that just stands to reason.
