Give me the name of one single fired HC who didn't leave behind a roster that formed the core of the next HC's roster for at least the first year?
.

THAT my friend was an over the top statement. It is just flat not true AND it misconstrues the reality.

Let's start within the division.

By the time Vermeil started winning in 99, there were 6 players total on the entire roster who were there before he took the job in 97.

By the time Carroll started winning in Seattle in 2012, he had a total of 3 starters who there before he took the job in 2010...and one of those 3 was the punter.

If you want names of coaches that did not leave as much talent as the last regime left McVay, then start with Brooks/Knox, Mora/Holmgren, Landry in his last years, Meyer/O'Connor/McCulley in SF from 77/78, Austin in Pittsburgh before 1969.......the list is actually very long. These are just some examples.

Compare that to THIS: the current Rams have TWO players who are legitimately in the conversation for league MVP. They have what everyone recognizes is a franchise qb, albeit a young one still developing.

They also have guys like Tru, Joyner, Tree, Barron, Brockers, Saffold (who they kept when he was a free agent), Brown (who is getting a lot of praise lately), Hav, and key special teams such as Zuerlein (did you miss him last game?), Hekker, Cooper, and then key special teamers like Hager and Littleton who are also effective starters when the #1s go down on defense.

THAT is a lot. It's stands deliriously in contrast to teams that had to rebuild. That's why Demoff came out before they even interviewed McVay and directly said, and this is a quote, "this is not a rebuild."

Here's the rule and you can test it by looking at old rosters.

IF you see a one-year turnaround in the NFL it's because it is one of those cases where the new regime inherits a lot of talent. If you want another example besides the 2017 Rams, look at the 2011 49ers.

IF a team rebuilds, that means it jettisons a lot of the inherited players and starts over, and it is difficult to flat out impossible to win under those conditions.

If you want to be analytically honest, and fair, and objective, you do not dismiss inheriting a Gurley, Donald, and Goff (and all the others) as par for the course. THAT is actually VERY unusual.

None of which subtracts from what the coaches did this year. And we most likely agree on that part. McVay, Phillips, Kromer, Olson, Johnson (DL coach)...what's not to like? With McVay and these players Rams are set for YEARS. So let's just agree on that.
