I can only hope that Boger screwed up the call. Because if they enforced the rule correctly, then it's the worst rule ever.
How can one conceive of a rule where committing a personal foul becomes a huge advantage to your own team??? I really hope this play gets the attention it deserves from the rest of the NFL.
What's a coach supposed to say-- "if you noticed the refs threw a flag because you were being held on a kick return, then hurry up and grab somebody's facemask before the play is over!" I hope the NFL does an apology for this one-- what a mess.
One more thing: Sounds like this is a brand new rule this year, one that they passed in an attempt to "speed up the flow of the game." They wanted to prevent the old recurring scenario where offsetting penalties result in a re-kick.
But making an incentive for a personal foul...? I just hope Boger screwed it up, I hope the new rule isn't actually this dumb...
