Well, if the defense was offside, I think technically an infraction occurred "before the play" so they just march off five yards against the defense, and the holding call is ignored because the play "never happened."
But yes-- if there was a play from scrimmage with both offensive holding and defensive holding, then, yes-- they re-play the down from the previous spot.
Again, just wondering what would have been the correct spot on the Rams kickoff return play if the Washington personal foul had not occurred.
And still curious if the Rams infraction occurred "in flight" or "after the catch."
It was never explained at all by Blandino, just said something about that being the rule... The commentators were very confused by that, as most of us were.
It was botched, and there is no argument for it IMO.
Like I said, so if Cooper caught it in the endzone and ran it out to the two yard line...we would have been rewarded with the ball being placed at the 25??? Makes no sense what so ever.
First of all, I have the game on tape...the entire sequence was a disaster....both flags were thrown well after the return was in progress, not before he caught the ball. Blandino looks befuddled by it as he tries to explain it....his first words were "it was an interesting enforcement" as he tries to explain it, his "explanation" made no sense at all of it...
Oh well, be interesting to see what the league says about this... Joe Curley said he's going to ask McVay about it today.
