But there is still the matter of his height of 5' 8", his hands, his route running, his catch radius, his sight adjustments, etc. His coaches can only do so much by "how he's used".
No I don't know that McVay knows that Tavon is not a pure receiver and can't be used that way. McVay may have a blindspot when it comes to that with Tavon.
And so do you apparently. Your remarks there pertain only to the part of his game where he's used as a receiver.
HOWEVER, he;'s not simply a receiver so you aren't actually discussing his actual game.
So our discussion goes in circles and amounts to this:
YOU: he's not a fully equipped receiver.
ME: no he's not, as I keep saying, but is a dangerous weapon that should be used in a lot of ways not just as a receiver.
YOU: but he's not a good pure receiver.
ME: sigh....
...
Sigh.....
You're just not listening to what I actually post, zn. You hear only what you THINK I mean. You do that often, btw. Not just in discussions with me, but with others, as well.
Look, Tavon is no great shakes as a KOR, PR, or even a RB if one goes by his actual stats for '16. And he's trending downward after his big payday, to boot.
I'ts NOT just about his weaknesses as a WR, man.
Here's what I think you miss and why I think he has value though you don't. First as a PR he is a threat to score. Only 1 or 2 returners have more TDs than he does across the last 3 years. That's not counting the ones that were called back.
Yes as a runner he is great shakes. 2015 he got 4 TDs and averaged 8.3 a carry. That's a pretty good weapon to have. Yes he can get be used as a receiver effectively. That happened in 2015, when he got 5 TDs.
Add that up and it's 9 TDs and 1187 total yards. Yeah that has value IMO.
Plus when he's used that way as a multiple weapon he is also an effective decoy. That's at least in part because he is one of the only players out there who can break off a long run in the running game or catch a pass on the same play without (depending on the play design) the D knowing which it is. The defense pays attention to him. Or he couldn't have been a decoy. They pay attention to him because they don't want him to break a long play, running or passing. Defenses, in other words, see his value. So my opinion is based on stuff like that.
I see value in that, for some reason you don't. So we differ, and probably always will. That's fine with me. Time to move on? Time to accept 2 people can just see something differenly? Cause there's actually nothing left to discuss, is there? I know I would just be repeating myself for the 100th time. I will tell you what there is NO value in. 2 people repeating themselves endlessly when they long ago passed the agree to disagree line.
Now if you had said "the way I see it, in my opinion, he doesn't have much value"...then the discussion is less tense. There's none of this "opinion mistaken for truth let me tell what's what" stuff.
